In the Fall of 2018, Ivy Tech was the first employer to participate in the Employers’ Forum of Indiana Medication Take-Back program in which the Forum partnered with the Indiana Attorney General’s community outreach reach office to provide free medication take back programs at any Indiana employer premise (indoors or outdoors).
The total amount of medications dropped off at Ivy Tech was an astounding 404 pounds across 18 campuses! Folks dropping off medications were comprised of approximately 60% faculty/staff and 40% students.
Such events are a terrific way to get unwanted medications out of folk’s homes, thus decreasing the opportunity for medication misuse and abuse.
The Indiana Attorney General’s office staff bring all that is needed and coordinate with local police officers to be at each take back event. Employees, staff, community members anonymously drop their unwanted medications in a box that local police properly dispose of after the event.
